Michael Wolfe
The story begins in the San Francisco Bay Area. Born in December of 1978 was a child that could never sit still or shut up. Michael drove his mother crazy as a child that ate everything in site while displaying a high drive for energy. No it wasn’t ADD. Just a fondness for adventure. He spent his adolescent years playing football, baseball, soccer, basketball and tennis at the local play ground. He did this while maintaining a rigid study schedule. Adventure followed with participation in Cub Scouts. Even thought Michael wasn’t fond of the high knee socks and shorts he was required to wear, he still had a ball. There were overnight camping trips, community projects, and many priceless experiences.
The next decade brought an induction into organized sports, Boy Scouts, and other “teenage” activities of interest. Michael excelled athletically and academically. As a “nerdy” athlete, he enjoyed friendships with the academically gifted (nerds) and athletically gifted (jocks). This helped to expand his social skills. Track and field and baseball became his main sports of participation. His peers gave him the nick name “Michael Johnson” in high school. Summers were spent cultivating skills in merit badges at Boy Scout camp. Eventually, he got a summer job at camp. 7 weeks away from parents as a teenager (getting paid and all you can eat meals) was heaven.
As high school came to an end, Michael had some big decisions to make. He was being recruited by San Francisco State in track, but wanted to play college baseball. Ultimately, he decided to join the Army. As a medical specialist and physical therapy specialist, he met and worked with many interesting individuals. His 10 year tour of duty took him to North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, New York, Texas, Louisiana, Korea, and Iraq. During this time, he helped in the rehabilitation and conditioning of more than 2,000 soldiers. He assisted physicians, physician assistants, licensed physical therapists and orthopedic surgeons literally everyday of his 10 year military career. He also helped to teach hundreds of soldiers emergency medical practices to include EMT, PHTLS, and Combat Life Saver programs.
Michael found time to work with McNeese State Universities’ athletic training department. He spent 1 year as a student athletic trainer. His focus was on the football and track and field teams. There he worked with over 100 athletes. Michael took the opportunity to pick the brain of the University Strength and Conditioning Coach as often a he could.
After his military career, Michael found his way to Detroit, Michigan. Here he began to spend time building his personal training career. A year was spent at Bally’s Total Fitness. Then a few months at Lifetime Fitness. The time spent working in a health club was not fulfilling his vision. His next step was to start his own company, Newfangled Fitness, LLC. While building his company, he began employment at Beaumont Hospital as an ER Technician.
Today, Michael works as a certified Metro Detroit personal trainer. Detroit Bootcamp is one of his popular programs for working adults. His focus is on helping individuals reaching their physical excellence through proper education, exercise programming, and nutritional habits. He is very passionate about helping anyone he can. This is not just a “job” or “way of making ends” meet for him. This is a career that happens to be about changing lives. Michael belives that fitness training is more than bossing someone around for an hour. There is a responsibility to lead individuals to success. Everyone deserves to be lead in the right direction by real health and fitness professionals, not imposters calling themselves trainers.
